Danish Diabetes Academy hosted together with six companies a string of webinars from the 4th to the 12th of November about a “Career in Life Science Industry.”

The goal was to give the participants an insight into, how it is to work in the industry, and what challenges they would face when changing from academia to the industry. The webinars were a success. Also for the company Sanofi.

Jens-Peter David from Sanofi hosted a webinar Thursday the 5th of November. The participants quickly began to ask questions, which created new questions, according to David. And that was exactly what David had hoped for.

“Personally, I think that it was a really good dialogue, we had,” says Jens-Peter David, Medical Operations Lead, GenMed Northern EU and Medical head, GenMed Denmark.

Furthermore, he explains that it was an important event for Sanofi, because Sanofi wanted to educate the students about their opportunities in the field. Something that is helping both the industry but also Sanofi, so they can attract motivated and educated talents, explains Jens-Peter David.

“For students, the industry is a big concept, and it can be difficult to get a feeling of the opportunities in the industry, when you don’t have an affiliation with the industry. Therefore, webinars like these will give the participants a bit of understanding and at the same time secure that students build their carriers on a more informed basis,” says Jens-Peter David.

Committed participants from all over the world

It was, however, not only Danish students, who saw a value in learning about their options in the industry. The webinars also had participants from Sweden, Germany, England, The Netherlands, Austria, Switzerland, Spain and the USA.

When asked, Jens-Peter David tells that the participants at his webinar were very committed and involved.

Jette Husum, facilitator of the webinars and employed at Danish Diabetes Academy, had the same experience.

“The participants were really motivated and the inquisitiveness was extremely high. Several days, we ended up overrunning the meeting schedule. In general, we experienced a surprisingly high interest in the webinars with as much as 60 participants per webinar,” says Jette Husum.

According to her, it is also a great advantage that the event was hosted online instead of physical meetings.

“The participants came from nine different countries. That would never have happened, if the event was a physical meeting. It is easier to spend an hour of your lunch break listening to a webinar, than having to spend an entire day for a physical event,” says Jette Husum.
