Translational medicine in drug discovery for psychiatrics

06.04.17

On April 20, 2017, the Copenhagen Bioscience Lecture, featuring Vice President Jan Egebjerg and Vice President Niels Plath from H. Lundbeck A/S, will give you an insight in translational medicine research applied to drug discovery in psychiatry at Lundbeck.

The Novo Nordisk Foundation Cluster Lectures are a series of open lectures for all researchers and other interested in and around the Copenhagen area. Every 4 weeks, on a Thursday evening, you are invited for lectures on themes with a general interest for the Novo Nordisk Foundation Research Centers. Often there will be a cross-disciplinary focus.

BIO - NIELS PLATH

Niels Plath, PhD, is Vice President for Synaptic Transmission at H. Lundbeck A/S. He graduated in 2004 from the Free University Berlin, Germany, in Neurobiology and Molecular Biology and subsequently conducted postdoctoral work for the Human Frontier Science Program at the University Berlin. In 2005, Niels joined Lundbeck Research in Copenhagen, Denmark, and has since then filled different positions as specialist, project manager and line manager within the company.

Niels´ research activities cover molecular, cellular and system aspects of synaptic plasticity in general aspects of learning and memory, as well as in pathological processes underlying the clinical manifestation of major depression, Schizophrenia and Alzheimer´s disease. To this end, his work employs multi-methodological approaches, including molecular biology, electrophysiology, neurochemistry and behavior. His work currently focuses on translational aspects of drug discovery research, with the aim to identify model systems and assay approaches that allow for validation of biological processes and pharmacological effects across species.
