Postdoc Summit moves to the Island of Bornholm

by Mie Tomzak
Bornholm is the new location for Danish Diabetes Academy’s Postdoc Summit 2022 – formerly known as DDA Winter School.
There are changes on the horizon for one of the flagship events of the Danish Diabetes Academy, the DDA Winter School. Firstly, the name changes to Postdoc Summit. Secondly, said Postdoc Summit is now to be held on the picturesque Danish island of Bornholm in the Baltic Sea.
Moving towards a greener world
The relocation is one of several attempts to be more environmentally conscious at DDA. The hotel chosen for the event is Green Solution House (GSH), located in Rønne, Bornholm. GSH was on The Guardian’s “10 of the best eco-friendly places to stay in Europe”-list in 2021, as well as on the list of “Overall Best of 10 Years” by Active House Alliance, a worldwide certifier of sustainable buildings.
Ample opportunity for immersion
Maria Hauge Pedersen and Morten Dall are the two chairs of the 2022 Postdoc Summit. They are postdocs at the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research at the University of Copenhagen. Both are excited about moving the Postdoc Summit to Bornholm.
- We believe Bornholm is a perfect venue for this, as it is sufficiently far from the major universities and hospitals, so participants can really immerse themselves in the event. We also think it is a great idea to move the summit closer to where most participants and speakers are coming from, which we believe is a more sustainable choice. The venue is really beautiful and has a reputation for promoting sustainability, and we are really excited about it.
What to look forward to for Postdoc Summit 2022
Maria Hauge Pedersen and Morten Dall can already now reveal a few details on the summit.
- Topics will include questions of society, such as exploring the state of diabetes in developing countries, but also focusing on the mental health aspects of metabolic diseases. Another focus will be sustainability in science, which aligns nicely with our new venue. We are looking forward to seeing what the organizing committee comes up with for the rest of the programme - the challenge, networking events, and other new ideas we will be working on with the committee over the next couple of months.
