Allan Flyvbjerg retires as CEO of Steno Diabetes Center Copenhagen

Allan Flyvbjerg, CEO of Steno Diabetes Center Copenhagen and chair of the board at Danish Diabetes Academy, has chosen to resign his position and retire.

63-year old Allan Flyvbjerg resigns his position as CEO at Steno Diabetes Center Copenhagen after six years. His resignation takes effect at the end of September this year.

“It has been six exciting years, where my first task was to lead the process of bringing the then privately owned Steno Diabetes Center Copenhagen into the Capital Region of Denmark (Region Hovedstaden). This task is now done, and continuous surveys show that the people with diabetes treated at the hospital there are among the most satisfied in the region. The same can be said for the employees,” says Allan Flyvbjerg.

Allan Flyvbjerg has dedicated most of his work life to diabetes.
Before his job as CEO of Steno Diabetes Center Copenhagen and clinical professor at University of Copenhagen, Allan Flyvbjerg was the dean of Aarhus University through six years, and before this, Allan was chair of the Danish Diabetes Association for 11 years, while he was also chief physician at Aarhus University Hospital and professor of diabetes at Aarhus University.

“I look forward to spending more time with my family and on my many hobbies,” says Allan Flyvbjerg.

Executive Vice President of the Capital Region of Denmark and chair of Steno Diabetes Center Copenhagen, Dorthe Crüger, emphasises that the departing CEO has always focused on improving the quality and length of life for people with diabetes.

“This focus has permeated Allan’s work at Steno Diabetes Center Copenhagen. He can also take a lot of the credit for making sure that the Steno Diabetes Center Copenhagen’s new hospital in Herlev has been on time and budget, as well as the high quality of it,” says Dorthe Crüger.

Allan Flyvbjerg will remain as chair of the board at Danish Diabetes Academy for the time being.
