Webinar - Is it time to question euglycaemic hyperinsulinaemic clamps for muscle insulin sensitivity?

Euglycaemic hyperinsulinaemic clamps are the gold standard method for quantifying insulin sensitivity. However, we found huge decreases in skeletal muscle interstitial glucose during insulin clamps, especially after exercise. This is because when blood glucose is clamped at euglycaemia, glucose supply is insufficient to keep up with the high insulin stimulation of glucose transport and glucose metabolism and consequently the interstitial glucose levels drops.
Professor Glenn Mcconell will present evidence that insulin clamp results are an artefact of the procedure and in “real life” situations, such as when a meal is ingested after exercise, muscle interstitial glucose actually increases not decreases.
