Family Involvement & Psychosocial Support in the Care of Pre-teens with Type 1 Diabetes

Several interventions have been developed to address psychosocial issues in teenagers with type 1 diabetes, however, these interventions have shown limited effect and rarely engage children and their everyday life actively in intervention development. More attention to the pre-teen age group might result in prevention or minimization of adherence problems that typically occur during adolescence and track into adulthood.
In this workshop we will focus on this age group and specifically the transition from childhood to adolescence and how to balance family involvement in a phase of emerging autonomy in the child.
