Unfortunately, the DDA Annual Day is cancelled due to COVID-19. However, you can still nominate a reseracher for the DDA Awards 2020, which will be handed out at the Networking Meeting for DDA-Funded Researchers on 7 December 2020. 

The Annual Day is a celebration of the high quality of diabetes research in Denmark and abroad with the purpose of giving diabetes researchers in Denmark the opportunity to create fruitful networks and to give and/or listen to inspirational talks. The theme of this year’s DDA Annual Day is “career and career moves”.


Before the event you can nominate a scientist who you believe deserves acknowledgments, and at the event the DDA will give out the two DDA awards and three poster awards to talented junior scientists. See how you can nominate a scientist below.

Venue: Sinatur Hotel Storebælt, Østerøvej 121, 5800 Nyborg, Denmark

WHO CAN ATTEND?

This event is intended for all researchers working within any field of diabetes, including both clinical, basic and translational research and/or interdisciplinary research within fields related to diabetes.

The event is free of charge.

Please note, that you are not guaranteed a seat at the DDA Annual Day if you do not meet the target group requirements. Priority is given to participants within diabetes and metabolism employed at Danish research and health institutions or in the life science industry, but a number of seats are reserved for participants employed at research and health institutions or in the life science industry abroad. If the event is overbooked, the DDA reserves the right to select participants based on the defined requirements and country of employment.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

The DDA Annual Day will include inspirational talks on career and career moves from prominent speakers who have made an interesting career move.

ABSTRACT SUBMISSION

The DDA Annual Day will also include oral presentations and poster presentations from junior researchers. Therefore, we invite all postdocs and PhD students (obligatory for DDA-funded postdocs and PhD students) to submit an abstract in addition to their registration. The DDA Committee for Education will evaluate the incoming abstracts and select the ones who will be offered a poster presentation or oral presentation at the event. There will be awards for the three best posters (see below).

Format of abstract:
The abstract should be max 1500 characters incl. spaces and written in Arial 10.

Please download the abstract template here, fill it out and upload it at the registration page in word format. No photos and tables should be included in the abstract.

POSTER AWARDS

There will be awards for the three best posters:

  • 1st Price: 3000 DKK
  • 2nd Price: 2000 DKK
  • 3rd Price: 1500 DKK

Poster format

  • Bring a poster size: A0 or A1 – width: max. 1 m/ height: max. 1.25 m (see example of poster templates here)
  • Formal language: English 

Poster session procedure

  • The posters will be presented during two informal open poster sessions i.e. you are expected to stand by your poster and answer questions from passers-by during the poster session that your poster number is assigned to.
  • The posters will either be displayed in a separate conference room on the 1st floor.
  • All participants at the DDA Annual Day will vote for the three best posters.

DANISH DIABETES ACADEMY AWARDS

On the DDA Annual Day, the DDA will also hand out two diabetes awards to recognize, excellence, innovation, passion and commitment in Danish diabetes research. Therefore, the DDA calls for nominations for:

  • DDA-Funded Scientist Award: This award is presented to a junior DDA-funded researcher (current or previous) who has shown great potential to be a world‐class researcher within his/her field of expertise.
  • Young Investigator Award: This award is presented to a junior researcher, below the age of 40, who is engaged in diabetes research in Denmark, and who has shown promising research and made an important contribution to the understanding and treatment of diabetes.

A candidate can only be nominated once and only for either the DDA Young Investigator Award or the DDA-Funded Scientist Award. If the DDA receives more than one nomination of the same candidate, only the nomination submitted first (according to date and time of submission) will be taken into consideration. Please note that only current or previous DDA-funded researchers can be nominated for the DDA-Funded Scientist Award. Other candidates should be nominated for the DDA Young Investigator Award.

The winners must be able to attend the award ceremony on the DDA Annual Day (8 December 2020).

Requirements for nomination

  • The candidates must be members of the DDA  (members of the DDA can only nominate one person each, and members of the award committee cannot nominate a candidate)
  • The candidates must be nominated by a member of the DDA (members of the DDA can only nominate one person each for each award)
  • The candidates must be engaged in diabetes research
  • The candidates must hold a PhD degree and the candidate must have obtained her/his PhD degree within five years (for the Young Investigator Award) or ten years (for the DDA-Funded Scientist Award) (at the time of nomination)

No-show fee
Please note that it is free of charge to participate in the course however the DDA will charge a no-show fee of 250 DKK if you do not show up and have not unregistered from the course prior to its start.
