The aim of the course is to introduce students to basal metabolism and the pathophysiology of diabetes at the molecular level as a basis for the diagnosis and the treatment of specifically type 2 diabetes.

The programme includes sessions covering Basal concepts and overview of metabolic diseases, Patophysiologies in Diabetes I (pancreas), Treatment of metabolic diseases and Patophysiologies in Diabetes II (nephropathy, wound healing).

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

The course will cover:

  • Molecular mechanisms involved in insulin action on glucose uptake
  • Molecular mechanisms involved in insulin resistance in obesity and T2D
  • Liver and Insulin resistance and Type 2 diabetes
  • Mechanisms underlying the pathogenesis and progression of NAFLD
  • Molecular mechanisms of Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) in insulin resistance
  • Adipose Tissue function
  • Adipose Tissue and insulin sensitivity
  • Dysfunctional fat and insulin resistance
  • Inflammatory mechanisms underlying beta-cell failure in type 1 diabetes
  • Inflammatory mechanisms underlying beta-cell failure in type 2 diabetes
  • The mechanisms involved in the control of glucagon secretion
  • The pancreatic α-cell has a role in the development of diabetes mellitus.

REGISTRATION

Admission to PhD students from Danish universities will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis and according to the rules in force. Applications from other participants will be considered shortly after the registration deadline.

Certification
A course certificate will be handed out to all PhD students on request at the end of the course. Full participation is required to attain ECTS point.

No-show fee
Please note that it is free of charge to participate in the course however the DDA will charge a no-show fee of 500 DKK if you have not unregistered from the course prior to course start.
