Gain a broader perspective on research in the future with Scientists of Tomorrow – a tailor-made course for early-career scientists. It is now possible to sign up for a single workshop.

Scientists of Tomorrow will provide you with a broader perspective on the circumstances your research will be applied under in the future.

We have talked to early career scientist Hande Topel Batarlar who has signed up for the whole course and participated in the first workshop to hear what she thought.

- As an early career researcher, it is important to be able to combine my own expertise with the new developments in science while building a future career. I think this course will contribute to my career by enhancing my understanding of the future technologies and methods, research trends and improve my ability to implement these developments into my research, says Hande Topel Batarlar, postdoc at the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Southern Denmark.

Through analysing needs, changes, challenges, and opportunities, you will develop a new mindset and learn about a paradigm shift in our approach to health and science, emerging technologies, and the importance of data. These are all elements undergoing rapid changes, and they will shape the research landscape in the coming decade.

Scientists of Tomorrow is developed and delivered by Copenhagen Institute for Future Studies (CIFS). The course is divided into four workshops, each with a specific theme describing the changes and trends we observe in science, technology, and medicine today:

  • Workshop 1: A paradigm shift in the approach to health and treatment (done)
  • Workshop 2: The holistic approach to health and research (24-25 Nov 2021)
  • Workshop 3: Data, data sharing, interoperability and standards (26-27 Jan 2022)
  • Workshop 4: Technology, artificial intelligence and readiness (4-5 May 2022)

Hande Topel Batarlar has participated in the first workshop “A paradigm shift in the approach to health and treatment”.

- Academic education motivates researchers to have a focused perspective and become specialised in a particular research topic. This workshop challenged me to take a step back to widen my perspective and to have an insight for future studies in health. In the workshop, we made interactive exercises to build scenarios about the future of healthcare by focusing on current megatrends: personalized medicine, multi-omics, and preventive healthcare. I learned how these scientific developments can potentially change the daily practice of health care and shape its future. I think the tools we learned will help me to better analyse and implement scientific developments and fit my research into future science, says Hande.
