Symposium on Co-morbidities in Diabetes

For two days an excellent faculty of international researchers will elucidate and critically review new evidence and existing problems covering diabetic complications in the kidneys, the eyes, the heart and the liver. Both basic science and clinical evidence within pathophysiology, epidemiology and treatment will be thoroughly discussed and in an interactive forum participants will be asked to discuss and critically engage in the presentations, in order to be inspired with new ideas for their own research, make new connections and networking.
TIME & PLACE
Dates: 14-15 August, 2019
Venue: Sinatur Hotel Storebælt, Østerøvej 121, 5800 Nyborg, Denmark
WHO CAN ATTEND?
The symposium is relevant for all basal and clinical researchers, clinicians and health professionals working with diabetes and co-morbidities related to diabetes.
Detailed Description
The symposium about complications in diabetic kidney, liver, eye and heart disease provides the opportunity to learn and discuss new evidence on epidemiology, pathophysiology and treatment principles.
By the end of the two-day symposium, the participants will:
- have an insight in the consequences of intensified, multifactorial intervention in type 2 diabetic patients with microalbuminuria, including improving glycemic control, treating blood-pressure with blockade of the renin–angiotensin system, treating with statins and implementing lifestyle interventions on the risk of ESRD
- be able to recognize new aspects of renal histology in patients with type 2 diabetes without overt proteinuria
- be able to recognize new markers or combinations of markers of diabetic kidney disease and identify systems medicine models and subtypes of diabetic kidney diseases
- understand the epidemiology and pathophysiology behind heart failure and ischemic heart disease in patients with type 2 diabetes and understand the new drug classes effect on this condition
- be able to evaluate the historic and present cardiovascular endpoint lowering drugs in diabetic patients with an effect on glycemic and metabolic profile
- have developed a greater understanding of the fact that type 2 diabetes patients with advanced liver disease constitue a large, yet under-diagnosed patient group, characterised by high morbidity and mortality
- be aware of the rationale to perform eye screening in diabetes and have a basic understanding of pathophysiological changes in the eye as well as treatment options.
