Esben Søndergaard receives 1,7m DKK to find better ways for treating type 2 diabetes

Former Danish Diabetes Academy Post Doc fellow Esben Søndergaard has recently received an amount of 1,7m DKK for his research at Aarhus University Hospital divided between three different grant providers: 368.482 DKK from the Health Research Fund of the Region of Central Jutland; 383.705 DKK from the Danish Council for Independent Research; and 968.543 DKK from the Novo Nordisk Foundation.
TARGETED TYPE 2 DIABETES TREATMENT
Esben Søndergaard is working on a new way to treat type 2 diabetes that is reducing the risk of severe diabetes complications such as cardiovascular -and renal disease. A new major study have shown that treatment with the so-called SGLT-2 inhibitors is reducing the risk of cardiac arrest and renal failure. The aim of his research is to outline the positive effects of the treatment and in the longer run to contribute to a more targeted treatment for people with type 2 diabetes.
DANISH DIABETS ACADEMY POST DOC FELLOW 2013-2015
In 2013 Esben Søndergaard received a 3-year postdoctoral fellowship from the Danish Diabetes Academy for his research project on postprandial VLDL-TG kinetics and metabolism in type 2 diabetes mellitus.
